JUST revised their agricultural education to generate jobs in Northern Jordan. By training staff in market-oriented teaching and entrepreneurial skills, the project ensures graduates are job-ready or able to start businesses, addressing key challenges in the agricultural sector.

Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) sought to support vulnerable Jordanians and Syrian refugees. They set the ambition to generate jobs by in North Jordan’s agricultural ecosystem.

JUST realizes that they needed to improve two things. Firstly, to adjust their education to better reflect the needs of the private sector. To do this they would need a better understanding of agri-food value chains’ standards and market needs. Secondly, to encourage start-ups that generate products and services that addressing the private sector’s challenges. For example, to increase farmer productivity while reducing water and energy consumption.

In collaboration with advance consulting we designed a tailor-made training for the academic staff. This program:

  • Guided them to design, deliver and evaluate a first elective course on entrepreneurial and soft skills.

  • Strengthened teaching staff’s pedagogical skills.

  • Improved teaching staff’s skills engaging the private sector and bridging the gap between education and the local labour market’s needs.

JUST staff now uses modern teaching skills and a market-oriented teaching approach. Their graduates leave with practical skills to access jobs or set up their own relevant business in the agricultural sector.
