Enhancing Communication Skills for Research Impact in Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Our project with DeSIRA-LIFT aims to enhance the communication skills of agricultural research teams in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The primary goal is to improve how research findings are communicated to policymakers, stakeholders, and the public, thereby increasing the impact of agricultural innovation and research on sustainable development and climate resilience.
In collaboration with DeSIRA-LIFT’s team, we have designed a comprehensive training program focused on developing effective communication products such as policy briefs, research briefs, and stories of change. This program includes designing and implementing a course for DeSIRA project teams, identifying target audiences, and providing feedback and coaching throughout the process. Training sessions are conducted in both English and French, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. The program also supports the creation of two books compiling the most impactful stories of change from participating projects.
This initiative significantly improves the communication capacities of DeSIRA project teams, enabling them to effectively convey their research findings to a broader audience. As a result, agricultural innovations are more likely to influence policy and practice, leading to sustainable development outcomes. The project’s holistic approach includes a strong focus on gender equality and the inclusion of marginalized groups, ensuring that the benefits of improved communication reach all community members. By fostering long-term partnerships and enhancing local capacities, we aim to drive sustainable agricultural development and climate resilience in LMICs.
