Go Green Mali Meeting

Mali has been navigating complex politico-military and security crises. Despite this challenging environment, the country recognizes the urgency of joining global efforts to combat climate change. However, Mali lacks a comprehensive strategy to transition to a green economy. This will be crucial for combating climate change and fostering sustainable development. Another top priority is improving the employability of Mali’s young citizens. The green transition demands new skills in areas such as composting, biofuels, solar energy, reforestation, and biogas. It also requires a new generation of entrepreneurial agri-food professionals prepared. Strategic planning and green skills are critical for the country’s growth and stability.

Go Green Mali is funded by the Dutch Embassy in Mali and coordinated by SNV Mali. It operates in the regions of Bamako, Sikasso, Ségou, and Mopti. By fostering entrepreneurial skills in green sectors, this project addresses both youth employability and climate change. This project seeks develop Mali’s green industries and create sustainable employment opportunities for youth. This project aims to strengthen industries that contribute to the green economy while improving social equity and reducing environmental risk.

iCRA’s role in the Go Green Mali project is to prepare young Malians for the emerging green economy. iCRA is building a foundation for sustainable economic growth in Mali through targeted activities, including studies, training, advocacy, and the development of green businesses. These activities contribute to developing green skills and access to green jobs. We do this work in collaboration with key Malian institutions, such as the University of Ségou, to enabling an environment conducive to a green economy.
