Evidence-based strategic decision-making in Burundi

ATAB was initiated to give the European Delegation insight to make strategic decisions support agricultural resilience and food security in Burundi. iCRA represented AGRINATURA in Burundi and managed the network’s technical assistance. We designed and monitored activities, managed budgets, and recruited and monitored Burundian and international experts. All interventions were delivered by scientists from the AGRINATURA network.

The ATAB initiative coordinated several studies:

  • Measuring resilience in Burundi
  • Comparative analysis of approaches and methodologies implemented in Burundian development projects
  • National dairy value chain analysis
  • Analysis and recommendations for EU projects focused on environment and biodiversity in Burundi

As the ATAB initiative matured, its scope broadened to include interventions to strengthen NGOs, agribusinesses and educational institutes in Burundi. iCRA trained professors, teachers, graduates and researchers from Burundi University. These training programs were designed to support agribusiness partnership building, integrate practice-based education focused on employability and enhance impact of research on challenges in the Burundian agricultural sector. We also supported establishing CERRCO, founded by Claver Kazobavamwo, a former ATAB expert.
